Our next meeting will be September 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Location will be at the Olga Community Center located at 2325 S. Olga Dr. From exit 141 on I-75 (SR 80, Palm Beach Blvd.) go east 6.0 miles. Turn left on S. Olga Dr. The community center will be 0.3 miles on your left. Our guest speaker will be Dr. David Vaughn. A brief bio is listed below: *Dr. David E. Vaughan, Ph.D*. Executive Director, Mote Tropical Research Laboratory, Florida Keys, Dr. David Vaughan is an aquaculture researcher who has designed, built and operated many marine aquaculture projects, programs and businesses. In 1991, Dr. Vaughan initiated the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution’s Aquaculture Division and built their water recirculating Aquaculture Development Park. He also built and developed the Center for Marine Ornamental Research (CMOR), which is now incorporated as the largest marine ornamental hatchery: Oceans, Reefs and Aquariums Inc (ORA), which he was president of until 2001. Currently, Dr. Vaughan also serves as the Chief Scientist for EarthEcho Internationals’ Coral Reef Restoration Initiative (CRI), a coral gene bank for reef restoration. Dr. Vaughan now works on coral reefs with Mote Marine Lab in the Florida Keys. He works using aquaculture as a tool and technology for culturing marine organisms for restoration of coral reefs including hard corals, soft corals, conch and sea urchins (/diadema/). __________________
