The August meeting will be at the FGCU Marine Field Station in Bonita Springs. Meeting is August 16 at 10:30 am. Location is 5164 Bonita Beach Road. Speaker will be Dr. Aswani Volety of FGCU's Marine Science department.

FGCU is conducting oyster reef restorations at various locations in Estero Bay and Pine Island Sound. Meeting will be in the classroom at the field station. We will not be going to the actual reef site on this date.

However, they are waiting on another permit and anticipate a need for volunteers on August 9. They will be setting up another section of reef. I'll post more details on this once the permit is obtained and everything is finalized.

I plan on wearing beach attire and heading out to some of the local passes/beaches after the meeting for anyone that feels like the need a saltwater "dip" or needs some nassarius snails, etc.

If the weather is nice, I may go snorkeling. I've heard that there is a shallow reef line just off Vanderbilt Beach Road at the public beach. Never been there, has anybody else.

Did anyone go to the above mentioned reef, or take a tank in the water? If so, what was it like there- life, vis., etc?

We took snorkel gear, but

We took snorkel gear, but the visibility was so bad that we left it in the cars and just hit the beach for a little while. Added it to our list of things to do this winter when visibility is usually much better.
