I've had a little bit of an algea problem in the tank (just thin green algea on glass mostly, easily just wipe it off). The algea doesnt really bother me since I can wipe it off, but its started to grow on my little monti cap. It started growing on it a couple weeks ago. I moved it to really high flow area, and I try to rub off the algea every couple days, but it doesnt seem to want to let go. How can I get it off? Will I hurt the coral if I brush it with like a tooth brush or something? __________________

I dont think emerald craps would help, its just on the glass and that one coral. I got pleantly of snails cleanin the glass, and I scrub it every once in a while.

Just throwing out ideas...
Submitted by bill boy on Fri, 2008-07-18 14:14.Just throwing out ideas... do you clean your glass daily with a mag-float or something. You shouldn't get heavy algea growth on the glass if you do. I thought the emerald crab would work because I have one that lives in my pink birdsnest coral and is constantly cleaning it up whenever something gets caught in it.

Submitted by 180reefer on Fri, 2008-07-18 18:15.the last major problem I had with algae - i cleaned up with a few units of chemipure.. it never hurts, then put a larger skimmer on the tank (a shorty 5000). as far as the brush goes, i would just try to do gently with a very worn out toothbrush - gently. if you don't, the coral will die anyway.

I do use a mag float to clean algea, I do it as soon as algea starts to appear on the glass.
