Hey everyone, I'm deciding to upgrade to a better skimmer and would like opinions. AquaC Remora Hang-On Protein Skimmer w/ Drain Fitting + Maxi-Jet 1200 Pump

I've used the Red Sea Prism
Submitted by jdhuyvetter on Sat, 2008-07-12 09:26.I've used the Red Sea Prism and was not impressed. Actually, I thought is sucked. A real pain to get it adjusted. It either wants to overflow or dump bubbles in the tank. Very difficult to find the happy medium.
However, it is still in the garage and I plan on using it on my new tank as soon as I get off the computer and finish laying the hardwood floors so I can move the tank into the room, set it up and start spending more money (that I don't have).
So, take my opinion with a grain of salt!

I don't think you need quiet that big of a skimmer for a 30gal unless you have plans for a SPS tank, or keeping high fish/bio load.
I know Artistik Aquariums sells them - I sold one for him to a customer while he was busy
I've had a Red Sea Prizm Hang on before, and while it worked semi decent on a 10gal - i personally wouldn't use it.

Submitted by NewbFish on Sat, 2008-07-12 16:25.Yea I was thinking of the "AquaC Remora Hang-On Protein Skimmer w/ Drain Fitting + Maxi-Jet 1200 Pump" also. I mainly want to keep zoas and shrooms with a clown with an anemone. That skimmer would do fine right?
Edit: Would I be able to keep SPS's with this skimmer?

Submitted by wiszmaster on Sat, 2008-07-12 22:24.Some would disagree with the following statement:
I really don't think weather you have a skimmer or not will allow, or prevent you from having SPS in general.
Montiporas seem to do just fine in little dirtier water.
Bryan from Nokomis/Venice does not own a skimmer, and runs an aquaculture shop.
I personally like running larger skimmers. In a matter of fact, I hooked up a new one yesterday to my system, and the Volcano is gone.
There is alot of other things to look at and pay attention to. To answer your question in a very general & broad statement, I would say Yes. As long as you take care of everything else, Light, Nutrient Control, dKH/PH/Ca/Temp.

Definitely between the CPR
Submitted by artistikaquariums on Sat, 2008-07-12 22:45.Definitely between the CPR and the AquaC. If its for a 30 gallon, the AquaC would take up less space. Also, AquaC makes a pre-filter box/surface skimmer attachment that hides and protects the pump, plus it looks a lot nicer than just a pump sitting in your tank. Check out the other options available at www.proteinskimmer.com.

I seem to like the AquaC a lot better too also, and I placed an order for it just not to long ago. And the pre filter box is nice too and I also ordered that.
Once again thanks everyone for your opinions.
