Cristina, Lisa, Mom, Dad & I are in the Florida keys this weekend for the collecting trip. We ended up doing the saturday trip, and will sit out tomorrow.

We got on the boat around 8:15AM and were off the dock around 8:30. First spot around 9:30AM @ American Shoal Light House. Snorkeled around for around an hour. Saw lots of fish, 'cudas, Atlantic Blue Tangs, lots of blown surgeonfishes .... sweetlips? gobies, etc..etc.. surf was a bit rough for snorkeling under the light house ... with the supports being barnacle & fire coral encrusted.
Cristina wasn't feeling good in the AM, but decided to come along .. didn't want to disapoint me. 15-20 min in the water, and out she was ... puking ... etc..etc.. Sad

Off to the next location we were, took a little longer to get to, due to some navigational 'issues' ... but we made it. Went around the outter reef & anchored inside, was much calmer. This ended up being a GREAT collecting trip, with some good scenery for the snorkeling minded. Jeff & I were off for blue legs, in addition found lobsters, TONS of urchins, large crabs ... small crabs .. tons of tangs.
Lisa caught some gobies, urchins .. found some nice shells. Crsitina stayed on board the whole time. still sick.

Jeff & I crossed the reef, with about 12-18" of clearance at the shallow top, and a nasty rip current & surf over it. nice grassy flats on the inside, and rocky terrain on the outter side.
Here we loaded up on Blue legs ... was a good location. Got ur commercial limit within about 10 major rocks that we turned over.

Off to the next location, found a nice area between 3-9 feet deep. Found more coral here that either of the 2 previous locations. Lots of brain domes, nice fire coral branchins colonies, green carpets, tons of sea fans, sea whips & gorgonians .. also nice sponges, and tons of urchins .. LARGE ones, large long splined ones that were basketball size .. this is also when i stuck myself with one... through my dive gloves.

All in all, was a good trip. We didn't hit up the touristy snorkel spots, did a mix of snorkel & collecting. Was a real nice time, great weather & being around a company made the trip fun. Of course a little burned ...

You forgot to mention that

You forgot to mention that your sister caught two fish, a saddle back gobie, and a female blue head wrasse...she had tried to catch an angel too, but due to mask failure and waves she lost it.

I wasn't too sick from the boat, just not feeling good this weekend...is a bad weekend for me...oh well, got a nice tan on the boat, a little sunburn on my face. Had a great time, and look forward to the next collecting trip I'm able to take...Hopefully that weekend, I'll feel much better than this one.

I agree, it was a great trip

I agree, it was a great trip and being with family and friends made it.
With the diving gloves on and clinging onto this one rock attempting not to be carried away by the current, i attempted to catch this angel for about 30 minutes, and when i got the sucker in my net, a gush of water made it into my snorkel and nearly choked on it,of course loosing the fish. haha thats alright, i caught a really neat gobie, and a wrasse.collected some pretty cool shells as well. The first stop was really nice, the lighthouse was very cool to swim under. The current was a little "rough" under there, and carried me right into one of the metal supporters underneath it. scratching about 6 1/2 inches of my left leg. didn't actually notice it until i was snorkeling and i saw blood in the water, super glad that i didn't run into fire coral. =]
Anyways, we collected some really neat things, and all the stops we snorkeled and collected at were amazing. Jeff was a great tour guide, and now all we need is a nice cold bottle of aloe vera, and we're all set. =]

oh yes, sorry. Lisa fought a

oh yes, sorry. Lisa fought a 5 1/2 foot barracuda .. she ended up grabbing him from mid-water as he was trying to attack her .. and she bit it's head off! just like ozzi.
lol .. thats our story, and we're sticking to it.

But I did see a rather large tarpon... him & i were kind of circling around each-other and checking each other out. must've been 5-6 ft. long, and 18" tall?! not sure .. but LARGE! scared me at first, when i only saw the shadow out of the corner of my eye.

All in all, was a great trip, and jeff did a good job showing us around, taking us out & being the collecting guide.
