I currently have the water from the tank going into a sock within my skimmer section of my 75 gal sump. I must admit the sock catches alot of debris! I change it about every 3-4 days. I wait until I get about 4 dirty ones before I wash them(no soap!)
Did I mention what a pain that is!

I have been reading that socks actually allow debris to rot inside. That creates toxins like nitrates. So, I've been thinking of going without the sock. I'll just run a drain pipe below the surface and into Live Rock Rubble. The only thing is will I have to clean the rubble? If so, how often? Add some cleanup critters???

The skimmer section is 10 gal which flows to a 20 gal fuge finally into a 10 gal return.

I am planning to completely redo my sump.....I'm never content.

Thanks. Did I mention I'm never content? And maybe a little obsessive.......

I'd still like to hear how others have their tanks setup. I'm sure lots of people could benefit from the postings.

Thanks for your input.

Is water flowing into sump below the surface and into what? Is there a bubble trap between entry and skimmer? Glass bottom or rubble or.....
I assume skimmer dumps into refuge freely or with some sort of diffuser?

Thanks again!
