Just wanted to let everyone know I found a great store to purchase fish from. In NFM off OLD Us 41 North of Bayshore in the "old" Winn-dixie shopping center the is a fish store. They had damsels for $2.00. They are wholesalers from Ft. Lauderdale and opened about a year ago. They travel here everyday from Ft. Lauderdale and are trying to sell the store ($25,000 if anyone's interested). They had some gorgeous fish! You might want to check it out. I'm taking my mom there Saturday and will take some pictures of what she get's and list what the prices were. __________________

Jerry Tieder is the owner
Submitted by wiszmaster on Fri, 2007-08-24 09:16.Jerry Tieder is the owner ... they own Dragon Fisheries in Lauderdale area.
They usually have cheap LR ... but it's very plain, and small pieces.
Just remember ... damsels can be pretty mean, and hard to get out of a tank later on ... they might beat up on some of your future fish.

It wasn't just the damsels
Submitted by Cristina_j on Fri, 2007-08-24 09:29.It wasn't just the damsels that they had cheap, all their fish were extremely discounted and Saltwater fish were the majority of the store. I guess Jerry is just going to sell everything off and get rid of it all since he hasn't had anyone interested in purchasing the store. From what I've heard he's trying to get rid of it fast so that he doesn't have to travel here everyday from Fort Lauderdale. I wasn't planning on purchasing a damsel, it's just the only one I remembered the price on.

Just a little FYI: He has
Submitted by FlaEagleFan on Fri, 2007-08-24 14:54.Just a little FYI: He has been selling that store since I first got into this hobby, a little over a year ago. At that time the price was $30k
But the prices have always been really good. I got a pair of cleaner shrimp from them for $20!
I just wish it was a little bit closer.
Doesnt matter though.. I have my fav. store. " I think everyone has a fav."
Would you happen to remember
Submitted by Kittikity on Fri, 2007-08-24 19:27.Would you happen to remember the name of the store? I've never owned a business but have worked in retail most of my working years.. I'd love to run a store of my own..
I'm headed there tomorrow
Submitted by Cristina_j on Fri, 2007-08-24 22:08.I'm headed there tomorrow and will post for you. Marco probably knows off the top of his head though. I'll also get a phone number for you.

Well I ended up buying stuff
Submitted by Cristina_j on Sat, 2007-08-25 17:20.Well I ended up buying stuff for my tank, hopefully it's ready for it, they tested my water for me and said it was fine. I got a small clam, chocolate chip star fish, 2 bright blue chromis, 2 perculated (spelling i think?)clownfish, 2 peppermint shrimps and 5 blue leg crabs. $60.00 They had some really neat corals there was this one that was a tube with pink and white coming out of the top. Mom got a clam and a Hippo whatever (it was Dory) for 25.00. I'll take pictures tomorrow and post. I'm severly sun burnt from being at the football field from 10 this morning to 3:30pm and there being NO shade.

Submitted by wiszmaster on Sat, 2007-08-25 17:39.BNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - GET THE CHOCOLATE CHIP STARFISHOUT OF THERE .... THEY ARE NOT REEFSAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have not tried one myself - Just what i have read virtully everytime.
also ... clams ... what kind of clams did you both get, and what lights do you have over the tank? If you're still running PC lights ... i don't think those clams will live long... just my honest opinion.
Take care,

Well the chocolate chip star
Submitted by Cristina_j on Sun, 2007-08-26 08:07.Well the chocolate chip star is out of there. If it's not reef safe, say goodbye. He's on his way to the beach. I only paid a couple bucks for him, it would cost more for me to drive him back to NFM than to just cut my cost and get out now before he does damage. They told me he was safe....shows me to trust someone I don't know.

Too bad- some stores just
Submitted by Dawn on Sun, 2007-08-26 08:20.Too bad- some stores just like to ring up the sales! Others will ask what kind of tank you have, and offer- "You know, they're not reef safe".
My daughter is crying now,
Submitted by Cristina_j on Sun, 2007-08-26 10:45.My daughter is crying now, that was her favorite. It was the one she picked out. All the fish are still doing good, the brown alagae is still in the tank, but the snail and crabs are doing their job, it's slowly getting better. Scott's Xenia is finally happy, I fed it yesterday afternoon and it finally fully opened. I have compact lighting which has done fine for mom in the past. I'm sure at some time I will upgrade to t-5's. I have the clam positioned in the sand away from everything getting direct light.

Maybe set up a small tank
Submitted by Kittikity on Sun, 2007-08-26 12:49.Maybe set up a small tank just for the starfish?
Just a suggestion, don't
Submitted by Sean5472 on Sun, 2007-08-26 17:56.Just a suggestion, don't release things that you don't want anymore into our enviroment. Most things bought are exotic and just end up dieing, though some survive and even reproduce which just destroys our enviroment more (ie, cichlids, carps, maleluca's....)
It's actually in a bucket
Submitted by Cristina_j on Mon, 2007-08-27 10:03.It's actually in a bucket with water from my tank at the moment. Someone I work with has Harlequin shrimp and he wants it to feed them. This way I'm not releasing it into the wild. I used to work for a construction company that removed Malelueca, so I know what a pain exotics can be. I feel really bad that it's going to be destroyed, but I had someone give bad advice. I rather not destroy it.

Wasn't trying to be rude.
Submitted by Sean5472 on Mon, 2007-08-27 16:09.Wasn't trying to be rude. It in a few posts above you said "He's off to the beach" i guess i took that too literally.
Sean, There was really no
Submitted by Cristina_j on Mon, 2007-08-27 20:42.Sean, There was really no offense taken...as I read what I had wrote, it did seem a bit harsh that i was going to just take him to the beach or kill it. I'm the most easy going, gentle person ever. I'd never intentionally hurt anything, or anyone. I was really upset and frustrated at what I was told. I'm just starting my tank, and this was my first purchase of "living" things and it went terribly wrong. I had just gotten the xenia and another coral from friends and didn't want to see their hard work go down the drain. The guy at work actually had set up a small tank over the weekend in his office at work, He's temporarily put it in his quarantine tank at home and will be moving it into that once it is stable.
