new to the forum and read about a collecting trip...where do you guys collect 'em i've only seen them at bunche beach. Also how do you get around the no live shelling laws or do you just keep quiet about it?

Submitted by Sean5472 on Fri, 2007-08-03 16:51.just learned something new lol, collecting "live shell" (anything with an animal in them) is illegal on sanibel and captiva, but the rest of florida only starfish and sand dollars apply. snail on! so do you collect them at bunche beach? i just always figured it was illegal since i was always taught not to take live stuff from the beach as a kid

Submitted by Sean5472 on Fri, 2007-08-03 16:54.In 1995, the state of Florida ruled it unlawful to collect live shells on Sanibel because the increased popularity of island shelling was depleting shell populations while adversely affecting the environment that the shells support. "Live shell" is defined as any with an inhabitant, whether or not the animal seems alive.

Yes, we used to go to Bunche Beach .. very flat, great for collection when tide's out.

As for the .gov i'm sure i could but i'm pretty sure its a legit law there's all sorts of stuff on google about it as well as word of mouth how i found out
