Those of you that know me will say I’m a tecno fobe but I ll give it a try . Talking to Jeff he said he had a thought ,mmmmm that could mean trouble .  He said “being that your taking down your tank and rebuilding  why don’t you post picks of what your doing “ not too bad of an idea ? So here it goes . First off I’ve had “salt water” tanks for over 30 years . the one we have {meaning the one robin let me build }  is over 10 years running and it’s time for a rebuild .not much will change but it will change everything lol.new pumps ,lights, sump configureation doseing and yes even a controller or 2 (aggggggg) anybody that’s been in this thing  for any length of time knows , this is not as bad as a tank crack but it rates rite up there with it ! Hope you get a laugh and if you have any suggestions give me a call .941-628-0922. The tear down is going to be wed 7/4 starting after coffee .theres soft corals that are not going back in so they ars up for grabs  yea yea I know it’s a Holliday but it’s what I got the bbq will be going slushies will be going  so bring a mug .any of you fish geeks want to come and help and hang out /grab some soffites please let me know so we can be prepared  so here it goes  fish room is almost ready and robin says about time

Hey Charlie, I agree with you, tearing down a system to rebuild isn't as bad as broken tank (been there, done that) or even a tank crash that kills stuff, but it's still a major undertaking. And having changed my aquarium systems around several times, I think what you are doing is really a good thing.

Have you already made decisions about what you are going to change? You mentions new pumps, new lights... do you already have the new equipment you plan to use? If not, have you already decided what new equipment you want to buy? Or are you really going to take your time, tear down the old and start planning and building and buying as you need to?

I have the time and if you need or want help, count me in. I'd offer to be there on the 4th of July even though it is a holiday. But I have an even bigger event scheduled, it's our 14th wedding anniversary and I've managed not to aggravate Elaine in all that time, so skipping out on our anniversary without her OK isn't going to happen. LOL! I'll let you know later.

thanks ron  i've been thinking about this for long time and got most of it in my head and most of the stuff needed to complet the job . i will move all keepers into the fish room on the 4th and break down the main tank than . hopefully over the next couple of days / weeks cleaning and rebuilding the main tank , when i built it 10 + years ago ,before i was involved in the club alot of what i did was normal to do . now things have changed so much that my glass boxes are pretty much the only thing thats not going to change. lol . whats still needed are 2  360 keissels and 2 current 24 " strip lights and a whole bunch of othe rlittle things that i will get as needed today will be making water and finishing the fish room tanks with salt and lights , on the 4th the pool is open for the non fish geeks and the bbq  and slushies will be going all are welcome to watch, heckel or help out

What time will all the heavy work be done?  I will show up just after all that for the BBQ, drinks and a dip in the pool.  Hanging out with friends and fellow fish nuts is always fun.

Lisa thinks I should show up PRIOR to all the work being done so what time do we need to hit the time clock.  By the way will we be getting Holiday pay?

Quite the undertaking! But seems like you've planned out as many details as possible. I've found the biggest delay to an upgrade/change is all the knick nack parts you seem to need once you get home from a trip to the hardware store. Amazon is probably the best as you can build a list and usually has 2 day shipping. Looking good I've got to work the first part of the 4th but I'll see when I get off and shoot you a message!

Ok it’s been about 2 weeks , run and drained 2 times with vinegar about 4 gallons each time . Draining it now to see if the haze is gone from the glass.  Tonite I’ll fill it with freash

water and see what it looks like tomorrow .started to dismantle  the sump and closed loop but can only go so far without it drained. All the critters Iwe moved are doing great maybe I’ll just leave tHem there and let Robin grow flowers in the main tank lol.

Hey Charlie, if Robin is going to grow flowers in the 180g tank, Elaine has a green orchid she can frag for you. I know green stuff has always grown well in your tank. Just kidding! Although Elaine does have a green orchid.

I hope all continues to go well on your re-set. After selling 3 of my 4 tanks, I'm getting close to finishing the re-set of my 40g cube with a new sump/refugium and a second cabinet.

Ok sorry for the long delay with LAS ( lazy ass syndrome)  3 trips.  Macna and hiking all over Arizona , and Grand Canyon with Rick,Lisa ,Matt and heather, and robin. working and a general dred of what I have to do !. I’ve gotten started on polishing the eching from the run away Coraline  alge. A word to the wise don;t let it get this bad ! After 20 mins of sanding with 400 grit sand paper then 20 mins polishing with cerium oxide I have clear peach about the size of a small dinner plate

Sure they like the new, smaller tank better... they can see out of that one!  :o

Good to see you back to working on the tank and super glad that all your critters are happy and healthy.

Looking great Charlie! Are you using the 400 grit on a polisher? How well is the cerium oxide removing the scratches from the 400 grit? When I started I followed the general youtube/internet directions keeping the cerium oxide as a watery consistancy as I got a feel for the product I started making a creamy paste which helped it stay on the area. Also brought up the speed of the buffer and went until the glass was slightly warm to the touch. Glad to see someone else local who is experimenting with glass polishing! Can't wait to see the results.
