Beach Clean Up And Bbq Sign Up

Recommended Posts

September's Meeting will be in coordination with Keep Lee County Beautiful's International Coastal Clean Up Day.

Marine life can easily be entangled in fishing line, nets, and six-pack rings. Fish, birds and turtles mistake trash like Styrofoam, plastics, and cigarette butts for food, which may eventually lead to starvation.

Marine debris weakens coastal economies by sapping dollars from the tourism and seafood industries. Tourism in Lee County contributed $2 billion to the regional economy last year.

Keep Lee County Beautiful, supported by the Ocean Conservancy and Florida Fish & Wildlife, organizes coastal cleanups in the fall to remove debris along our shoreline.

In the last five years, the Coastal Cleanup program has brought together more than 11,000 volunteers to remove over 90,000 pounds of trash from Lee County waterways.

Keep Lee County Beautiful is the Lee County coordinator for Ocean Conservancy's annual International Coastal Cleanup, the largest volunteer effort of its kind. Every September for 30 years, ICC has motivated over nine million people from around the world to pick up over 144 million pounds of trash from nearly 300,000 miles of shoreline.

We will be working with this organization to clean up the Sanibel Causeway Islands.

To get everything going we need to start with a list of those willing to participate.

Please comment in the thread below if you will be participating and how many will be in your group.

or submit the form at https://docs.google....iewform?c=0&w=1

Location: Sanibel Causeway Islands

Date: Saturday, September 17th, 2016

Time: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Trash bags and gloves will be provided by KLCB as well as safety vests (1 for every 3 volunteers). In an effort to reduce the use of plastic water water bottles introduced into the waste stream, volunteers are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles to stay hydrated during the clean up.

We will have a BBQ after the clean-up. As usual, the club will provide the meats and drinks. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share and chairs with you.

Please RSVP for the BBQ with the number of people and what dish you are bringing in the thread below by the Deadline Thursday September 15th b 5 pm!

We are at MACNA the weekend prior, and may not be available, or even returned yet. If we can find time, can we sign up just a couple days prior?

I won't be making the Beach Clean up on Saturday. I just got some terrible family news and will probably be going to Sarasota instead.

Sorry. I'd really rather be cleaning the beach.

Had a great time yesterday finding all the lovely mystery gifts beach goers have left behind! Corona and Philip Morris should be sponsoring these events weekly!

Thanks to everyone for making this a successful event. BBQ was fun, thanks to Charlie for cooking again!

Matt.
